The Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone (PPASL) held its 58th Annual General Assembly on Saturday 21st December 2024 in Freetown

PPASL a volunteer led organization and a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) held its Annual General Assembly (AGA) on Saturday 21st December 2024 at the Association’s Office at No 1 Richard Street off Jones Street in Freetown.

The AGA is held yearly and is the Association’s governing body and shall have full powers in accordance with the Association’s constitution to adopt such measures, as it considers appropriate to fulfill the objects of the Association.

Delegates to the General Assembly consist of the Honorary Officers, National Executive Committee /board members and representatives from each duly formed branches of the Association. The number of representatives shall be as decided by the Annual General Meeting from time to time by regulation.

Each branch shall elect its representatives at its Annual General Meeting. All representatives shall be paid up Association members with the right to vote and of good standing.

During the Assembly, various important matters were discussed, including updates on the Association’s activities, achievements and challenges during the period under review, 1st January to 31st December 2024.  The Assembly provided an opportunity for members to review the financial reports and audited accounts, ensuring transparency and accountability within the Association.

Moreover, the assembly served as a forum for Volunteers at various Branches to present their reports and share their views on the challenges and opportunities they faced. These discussions aimed to develop strategies and action plans to address the issues and advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals in the country.

Additionally, the Assembly approves and amends the Association’s Constitution and Bye-Laws and re-appoints the External Auditors. 

Overall, the Annual General Assembly plays a crucial role in guiding the Association’s work in the coming year as the volunteers continues to contribute their expertise and experience to drive the Mission, Vision and Core Values of PPASL forward.

A crucial aspect at this year’s Assembly was the elections that were conducted for Board Members (National Executive Committee-NEC). The NEC is directly responsible for provision of oversight role in the implementation of the organization’s policies by the Senior Management Team (SMT). The composition of NEC: the committee consists of two (2) Honorary Officers of the Association, and five (5) members nominated and elected, and has at least 20% of the NEC members are youth representatives between the ages of 18-24, while 50% are women from various fields ranging from Medicine/Public Health, Social Sciences/Humanities, Law, Communications/Media, Finance/Business Management, to Education. 

After the elections, the following members were elected to be NEC Members for a period of three years from 2025-2027:

Mr. Hassan Fuad Kanu- Honorary President

Mrs. Melrose Sesay – Honorary Treasurer

Mr. Samuel B. Weekes –Immediate Past President to serve as member with no voting rights

Dr. Victor Massaquoi -Member

Ms. Rosaline Judy-Youth Representative elected by the PPASL Youth Action Movement

Ms. Mariama Sesay- Member

Mr. Ishmeal Fofanah-Member

Ms. Ruth Fornah -Member

JOSEPH NDAHIM

Ladies and gentlemen I’m pleased to introduce to you Mr. Joseph Daheim the Project Supervisor  for the South-South East region -Kenema.  This man has been a strong pillar in this particular region he is very dedicated devoted into his work and that has catapult him from Field Coordinator to Project Supervisor.

He is a medical practitional but also grounded in programmes and development work. He has implemented several project name but few the KFW Project, Ebola Project and they were all successful with no complain from donor/partners and impactful impacts in those implementing communities. 

Joseph Dahimh is a very humble and simple man you hardly see him get angry or deny any tax or responsibility given to him.

It is by no mistake, that today he is being awarded as Staff of the Year.

Congratulations to you Mr. Jospeh Dahim.

FSK is hardworking, committed, persistent, focused, disciplined, devoted, determined, diligent and industrious. She has demonstrated that leaders or services to humanity is not about position or titles but resilence.

Momodu Smart

In all my years of work experience, some individuals stand out for their great qualities and this individual is one of those. He is known for his intelligence, work ethic, positive attitude, teamwork mentality, leadership, and diligence and well respected.  Throughout the time I have known him, he has shown me time and again that he is a positive, motivated leader with amazing potential. He has rose from the rank of Finance Assistant to Logistics and Supply Officer (LSO), he has been the finance Officer of the UNFPA Project over the years and has been able to manage these areas without complain. He regularly supports the finance team so we will meet deadlines.

Volunteers, Collogues and all present here due to his great attitude, dedication and excellent potentials, I would not hesitate to say Mr. Momodu Smart fondly call Keshi is Staff of the Year. 

YEMEH KOROMA

 If we are talking about working the talk this individual is a testament of this adage. He started as a volunteer and later recruited as a staff.   He has consistently exhibited exceptional performance in his role throughout the year by demonstrating strong leadership qualities, such as inspiring and motivating his colleagues, volunteers, taking initiative, and effectively delegating tasks. He is the midfield general in field work, he is full of creativity, and has made us excel in communication and collaboration, fostering positive relationships with colleagues, superiors, and other stakeholders. He is a team player and contribute to a positive work environment. He is an example of tenacious, enthusiastic and driven passionate staff. He is attached to the Program Department doubled up as the Youth and Communication Officer.

It is my pleasure to introduce to Yemeh Koroma as the Staff of the year. ‘’ The youth den youth’’.
