PPASL trained Men in Forces on Gender Transformative Approach (GTA) in SRHR interventions / program

Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone (PPASL) the leading service provider of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Sierra Leone on Monday 20th January 2025 has engaged Men in Forces (Military, Police, Fire Force and Prison) on Genda Transformative Approach (GTA) and SRHR issues. The training was conducted at 18 Settra Kroo Street Krootown Road Freetown.

GTA in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programming involves addressing unequal power dynamics and social norms that perpetuate gender inequalities. This approach aims to challenge traditional gender roles and promote positive masculinity and gender equality to improve access to comprehensive SRHR services for all individuals, regardless of gender.

This intervention specifically aims at equipping representatives from selected Forces with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to adopt a gender-transformative perspective within their Institution.

Through interactive sessions, case studies, and group discussions, participants explored concepts such as gender roles, power dynamics, disability and intersectionality. They learned how to identify and address systemic gender inequalities within their programs and services, ensuring they are more inclusive, responsive, and effective in meeting the diverse SRHR needs of all.

By adopting a Gender-Transformative Approach, the forces can catalyze profound shifts in the way they conceptualize and implement their programs, champion gender equality and drive positive change within their organizations and communities.
